UP-COMING SHOWS in our 10TH SEASON

November 9-12, 2023
THE ODD COUPLE
by Neil Simon

Neil Simon’s classic comedy opens our season, as it did in our then new theatre space, THE JAKE HOOVER THEATRE.  Raymond Kester directs this script which opens with a group of guys in the midst of a weekly poker game in the apartment of divorced sportswriter, Oscar Madison. We are introduced to the iconic and messy Oscar, and the equally iconic and neat Felix.  Both separated from their wives.  In a moment of weakness, they become roommates, and the rest (as they say) is theatre magic.  It’s a mismatch from the beginning, which leads to much enjoyment for the audience.  This is a part of our 5-Show Regular Season. A CHRISTMAS CAROL
musical adaptation by
Rick Vale
from the novel by Charles Dickens

A new tradition at THE ALLEY, A CHRISTMAS CAROL will return every other season.  This adaptation by Rick vale, with original music by him as well, is directed by Jill O’Malia (making her ALLEY THEATRE directorial debut). The classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his “night of the three spirits” comes to life, in-the-round, for audiences of all ages.  Please note date and time adjustments on this production (opening on Wednesday and 2 performances on Saturday) to accommodate holiday audiences.

January 18-21, 2024
ARSENIC & OLD LACE
by Joseph Kesselring

Kevin Weston directs this classic, dark, comedy for January.  In the play, Mortimer Brewster is living a happy life: he has a steady job at a prominent New York newspaper, he’s just become engaged, and he gets to visit his sweet spinster aunts to announce the engagement. He always knew that his family had a bit of a mad gene but his world is turned upside down when he realizes that his dear aunts have been poisoning lonely old men for years!  An uproarious farce on plays involving murder, Arsenic and Old Lace has become a favorite amongst regional theatres throughout America.

DRIVING MISS DAISY
by Alfred Uhry

Pulitzer Prize-winning, DRIVING MISS DAISY, is set in Atlanta and spans twenty-five years, from 1948 to 1973. When Daisy Wertham, a stubborn, elderly Southern widow, crashes her new car into the neighbor’s garage, her son, Boolie, forces her to take on a chauffeur. He employs Hoke Coleburn, much to her chagrin. At first, Daisy refuses to rely on a black man to get her from one place to the next but gradually Daisy’s prejudices are broken down and, against all odds, he becomes her best friend. Sean Smith makes his dictorial debut with THE ALLEY THEATRE COMPANY in this Alfred Uhro delicate drama.

 A WORLD PREMIERE
March 21-24, 2024
FALL RIVER:
A Lizzie Borden Musical
by Rick Vale

THE ALLEY is proud to be the first to present a new musical, written and directed by Rick Vale.  The 1892 murders of Andrew and Abby Borden in Fall River, Massachusetts…and the trial of Lizzie Borden which followed…held the nation in thrall.  It was a sensation of “firsts” for the United States and the world: a well-bred young woman accused, women reporters offered a chance to report on the case, and women allowed in the courtroom as observers for the first time.  It tested the bounds of American print news and “fake news” – and all the characters involved were, and are, as colorful as if always and intentionally written for the theatre.  This dark, entertaining, musical will be presented in THE ANDERSON MUSEUM OF ART.
This is a part of our 5-Show Regular Season. Click on the poster to purchase tickets.

RED, WHITE & TUNA
by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears, & Ed Howard

Raymond Kester,
Andrew Persinger,
and Martin Stapleton
reprise their roles in this, the third in a series of comedic plays (GREATER TUNA, A TUNA CHRISTMAS, TUNA DOES VEGAS) each set in the fictional town of Tuna, Texas, the “third-smallest” town in the state. The plays are at once an affectionate comment on small-town, Southern life and attitudes but also a withering satire of same. The plays are notable in that these three men play the entire cast of nearly twenty eccentric characters of both genders and various ages. Directed by Tiffany Johnson, this production will be held outside at beautiful GRAY’S PARK (2867 N. 100 W, Anderson, IN). Bring some lawn chairs, a bottle of wine, and a picnic – come enjoy the show. Click on the poster to purchase tickets.

All performances, including Sunday, begin at 7:00pm.

A COMEDY OF ERRORS
by William Shakespeare

Kay Winter is stage director for this shortest of the Shakespearean comedies.  Complete with mistaken identities, twins separated at birth, shipwrecks, etc. you can’t go wrong when Shakespeare goes for the laughs.  We see the twins try to navigate through a world that seems to have lost all its wits. Again, this production will be held outside in beautiful GRAY’S PARK (2867 N. 100 W, Anderson, IN). Bring some lawn chairs, a bottle of wine, and a picnic – come enjoy the show. Click on the poster to purchase tickets.

All performances, including Sunday, begin at 7:00pm.
